The platysma pulls the jawline down. Relaxing its upper fibres lets the muscles that lift win, and the jawline outline sharpens slightly. That is the whole effect, and whether it is enough depends entirely on why your jawline is blurred.
What it does
The platysma is a broad sheet of muscle running from the chest up over the jaw. Its upper fibres pull the corners of the mouth and the jawline downward, and the vertical cords visible in some necks are its edges standing out.
Injecting along the jawline and into those bands relaxes the downward pull. Two things follow: the vertical cords soften, and the jawline outline becomes slightly crisper because the lifting muscles are no longer being opposed.
Onset is the usual two weeks. Duration is three to four months, similar to the face.
Its real limits, stated plainly
This is the area where expectations most often exceed what the treatment does. Three honest limits:
- It does not remove submental fat. If what blurs your jawline is a fat pad under the chin, relaxing muscle changes nothing about it.
- It does not tighten loose skin. Laxity is a skin and SMAS problem. Toxin works on muscle. If you pinch the skin under your jaw and it is loose rather than tight over a cord, this is not the treatment for you — Ultraformer MPT works on that layer and is a different price and a different conversation.
- The effect is modest. A sharper line, not a new jaw. Photographs taken at the same angle and lighting show it clearly; photographs taken differently show nothing, which is why before-and-after comparisons for this area are so often misleading.
Where it genuinely shines: visible platysmal cords in a neck that is otherwise not lax. There the improvement is unambiguous.
What a Nefertiti lift costs
| Nefertiti lift | Price | Approx. USD |
|---|---|---|
| 20–40 units | $360,000 – $720,000 COP | USD 112 – 224 |
| Per unit of Botox® | $18,000 COP | USD 5.60 |
Charged per unit because the dose depends on how many bands there are and how strong they are. You pay for what is applied.
Consultation is free and the 15-day review is included. The full rate for every area is on the price page.
Technique and safety
Dose stays superficial and along the muscle itself. The relevant risk is product reaching the deeper neck muscles involved in swallowing, which can cause temporary difficulty swallowing or a weak neck. It is uncommon and technique-dependent, and it is the reason total dose in the neck is kept conservative rather than pushed.
It combines naturally with masseter treatment when the goal is the lower third of the face as a whole — one narrows the outline from the side, the other sharpens it from below.
